Knights of ColumbusThe Knights of Columbus was chartered in 1882 by Father Michael McGivney and six parishioners from St. Mary's parish in New Haven Connecticut. The Knights of Columbus has since grown to more than 12,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. The Monticello Council was established in 1976 and has over 200 members. The founding principles of 1882 still remain in effect today. They are: Charity - To provide assistance to those in need. Unity - To band together to accomplish deeds not obtainable individually. Fraternity - To assist our brother through aid and concern and provide insurance protection for members and their family. Patriotism - To serve and honor our country in the Church and community. Just some of the Monticello council activities include: Sponsor Softball Teams, Visit Sick & Shut-ins, Sponsor Radio Rosaries, Altar Server Appreciation Awards, Tootsie Roll Fundraiser, Financial Support / Missionaries, Two Food Shelf Drives per Year, Student Scholarships, Seminarian Support Program, Annual Community Donations, Parish Breakfasts for Charity, and Continuing Ed.
